The two day workshop was supported by ADeC and Finca Films.

The workshop was spread over two days and was located in both the villages of Mepal and Witcham.

The group of young people were introduced to video cameras and sound recording equipment.

In addition they were involved in a number of quite different interview situations which involved role play. This was in order that they should gain experience as interviewers but also come to some understanding about what it is like to be interviewed.

In the course of the two days the group talked about their own experiences of village life in the 21st century. A facility was also provided for them to talk to camera without any other members of the group present.

Finca films is a not for profit video production company in East Anglia, based near Cambridge. We have wide experience of video production, editing and DVD authoring.

In addition to our work with individuals, Finca Films has worked with a number of community based projects. These include, for example, projects with schools for children with special needs as well as dance, ballet and theatre companies.

However, our experience of both video and photography is broad. We normally shoot with two (sometimes three) cameras and we pay particular attention to video editing and the authoring and presentation of our DVDs and CDs.

Working with the community. We have been commissioned to make a new documentary film about the community

VIDEO

For the technically minded the group used a Sony VX2100, a Sony FX1 and a Sony HCR-HC3 but the final footage was shot in high definition (HD) wide screen. This will be edited in standard definition. They were quick to learn how to use the manual controls of the cameras, which is essential in professional film making.

SOUND

We used a variety of microphones set in several different arrangements and we made our digital recordings onto CF cards with a Tascam HD-P2 field recorder.
